Key project will enhance Brisbane’s transport network ahead of the 2032 Olympics.
Egis has been officially announced as the preferred signalling design delivery team for Brisbane’s Cross-River Rail North package.
With Egis already delivering rail signalling design for the Cross-River Rail South Package, this further strengthens Egis’ position as the leading rail signalling delivery team on one of Australia’s largest rail infrastructure projects.
Cross-River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line with 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and central business district with four new underground stations and six upgraded suburban stations. Southeast Queensland is one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions and its existing rail infrastructure was insufficient to handle the transport needs of the projected population increase.
With only a single bridge crossing the Brisbane River, the city’s rail network has a significant bottleneck that can impact the entire transport network with congestion and delays. The Cross-River Rail Project will provide a second river crossing which will significantly increase the capacity of the rail network and enable more frequent and reliable train services across Southeast Queensland as well as relieving road traffic congestion.
Egis’ rail systems and signalling team was initially engaged in 2021 to deliver smaller signalling design packages. By consistently meeting deadlines and delivering quality outputs, the team was awarded the full Cross-River Rail South signalling design package.
Chris Miller, director – Rail, Australia at Egis, said: “This project enhances Brisbane’s transport network, elevating it to world-class standards ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. Egis’s rail systems and signalling team is proud to be playing an integral role in delivering transformative rail infrastructure for Brisbane and Southeast Queensland and advancing the region’s transport legacy.”
